This report is on the point that whether PU ICS students take interest in Pakistani dramas or not and if they have any interest then in which channel pakistanis take interest and on what basis they like it. The students of ICS PU were questioned about the dramas and then the report was made on the basis of their answers.
Among students who watch TV serials are mostly females. The female students see Hum TV channel (Hum or aap, Har pal sath) mostly followed by Geo Entertainment (Har Pal Geo) and ARY Digital (Colors of life). They gave almost the same reasons for likeness of this channel. Almost all Hum TV dramas are quality serials and depicting the true picture of our society. The dramas are highlighting social issues and could be said as emotional dramas. Now a days, pakistani dramas are quite interesting. Its plot, characters, scenes dialogues, everything is quite powerful to attract the viewers.

A lot of dramas are novel-based. As most of the drama viewers are females, usually having interest in novels so they also like that kind of dramas. Recent common interesting dramas mentioned by the students are ‘Suno Chanda’, ‘Udaari’, ‘Daldal’, ‘Sammi’ and ‘Alif Allah aur Insaan’. And among other channel dramas are ‘Bedardi’, ‘Saaya’, ‘Aisi hai Tanhai’, ‘Baaghi’ etc.

The views presented by the students about the mentioned dramas are follows:

‘Suno Chanda’ was basically a creative and imaginative drama serial. As people got tired of seeing the same issues in reality and on screen, they want a relief from that routine. It was all about comedy and family bonding. People enjoyed it a lot. In drama serial ‘Udaari’, the most important social issue ‘child abuse’ is highlighted. In the same way, ‘Muqabil’ drama on ARY digital also tried to highlight the issue. Udaari presented this issue in a good way and showed that one can seek justice if tries.

‘Daldal’ showed that how Pakistanis are in danger in foreign countries. They are welcomed there by different gangsters and once they got trapped, it becomes very difficult, however, impossible to be free. Pakistanis go out in foreign countries in search of livelihood but not everyone gets benefit there. In drama serial ‘Sammi’, concept of ‘Vanii’ was presented before masses. It showed that how in tribal areas, when a brother or male commits a mistake or a sin, it is forgiven by took over of their sisters or females. There is no respect of a girl in that areas.

‘Alif Allah aur Insan’ was the best of all dramas as it depict our religious beliefs. Students and even teachers saw this drama with equal interest. This drama showed that sometimes people pray for negative things in life because they don’t have knowledge about future and in the end, they have to face a lot of difficulties in wishing for those things. The moral was that if one trusts Allah and cares for other human’ emotions then that one would be successful in his/her life at the end.

‘Bedardi’ drama serial was specifically made to highlight the issue of ‘AIDS’. It depicts the reality that if a person gets AIDS then it does not mean, that person is of loose character. Sometimes, people also get that particular disease due to carelessness of instruments and if a person got it, that must be cured methodologically. Everything is curable at a particular time, don’t lose hope.

‘Saaya’ is a Geo TV horror drama. As horror dramas are not made in Pakistan in that big number as compared to other romantic and issue-based dramas so people love to see it. In horror dramas, it is a single pakistani drama broadcasted on different channels.

‘Aisi hai Tanhai’ is an ARY drama and it depicts the idea that a girl must know her limits and must act within that limits. If she crosses her limits, the result would be very dangerous even it could ruin her whole family. Not only society but also our religion has set some limits for everyone and it must be followed.

The Urdu1 channel drama serial ‘Baaghi’ was actually a documentary on Qandeel Baloch’s life. It was wonderful and amazing. Actually it is a good start towards presenting documentaries in form of dramas that is quite interesting in all ways.
At the end, I would like to mention my own view. According to my own views, there is no doubt that pakistani dramas are depicting reality, highlighting social issues but these dramas are ignoring our cultural and religious values. Sometimes, they deviate from the real issue. The dramas sometimes show the happy and modern side of pakistanis, however, it is not the real case. Majority of the pakistanis are not wealthy enough to that extent as shown in dramas. But I am concluding that in real sense, pakistanis drama are known to be best in Asia. They are interesting, captivating and alluring. But as a suggestion, I would like to say that these pakistani dramas could be improved a lot by inculcating our cultural values. As these dramas are also seen by other countries, it would also transfer our heritage to them in addition to other things.
